Truth Training can be an incredible time to learn the Calculators directly from Todd, as well as benefit from a room of like-minded people. There’s nothing quite like it, which is why we so strongly encourage TC 360 members attend regularly.
We also recognize that Truth Training can still take some time and preparation, so we want to make that prep work as streamlined as possible. That way, nothing gets left up to chance.
Tips to Prepare for a Truth Training in Houston
1. Book Your Hotel
One of our favorite perks of the Houston Truth Training is that the event takes place at the Marriott connected to the airport. All you have to do is fly in.
The hotel is attached to the airport, so if you’re flying in, you can take the airport subway system right to the hotel. You’ll simply exit to baggage claim, grab your belongings, and take the escalators down to the lowest floor of the airport where the subway is. The subway map will show you exactly which stop takes you to the Marriott.
You’re welcome to stay in other accommodations besides the Marriott, however, this is by far the most convenient option. The entire Truth Training event takes place in the Marriott, including lunch and dinner.
If you’re booking your stay at the Marriott, we encourage doing so at your earliest convenience. This is a popular hotel choice, and getting an early start can help you get what you want from your stay.

1b. Have an Uber Plan If You're Off-Site
While we strongly recommend staying on-site for this event, the decision is up to you.
If you do stay elsewhere, be sure to have a plan of action as you travel to and from the event. The airport is a bit tricky to navigate, and the hotel is attached to the airport itself. It’s not a walkable area, so don’t count on that if you’re staying down the road.
This also means other accommodations are at least a few minutes away. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the event.
2. Know What the Hotel Offers
Truth Training starts fairly early in the morning, so it can be crucial to have a morning game plan. At the time of writing, there are several available breakfast options. There’s a dine-in breakfast option, which means that eating breakfast can take a bit more time than a serve-yourself continental meal. It’s a good rule of thumb to give yourself at least an hour in the morning. Training starts at 8:30, so getting to breakfast at 7:30 should give you enough time. If you’re more of a quick-service person, the Marriott also has grab-and-go options. You’re welcome to bring food into the conference room if you’d prefer to use your morning time for other things.
In the Marriott lobby, you can find a small selection of snacks that you can charge to your room, though you might want to bring your own snacks if you prefer a quick breakfast, or have dietary restrictions.
In the room, we have a beverage service including coffee, tea, water, and a small selection of sodas.
3. Pack the Right Stuff
When we’re in Houston, we won’t actually be leaving the building. So you’re welcome to pack based entirely on the indoor air conditioning, rather than the actual outside temperature. Todd likes to keep the room cold, so bringing layers is advised. (Emphasis on layers, because the mornings can be warm before the AC kicks in.)
While there’s no “dress code,” aiming for business casual seems to work for most people. You can even be regular casual, if you like. We’ll be sitting more or less all day, so your comfort is our priority.
This tip isn’t just about clothes, though. Truth Training is about learning, and it’s important that you have the right equipment! While most of training involves following along, there are some breaks for you to do your own calculations. We provide you with software updates if you’re a member, or trial access (with updates) if not. This means you want a working laptop that can run the program. Apple users or those with tablets will have a difficult time, and may not be able to use the software at all.
Bring a Windows laptop if you want to use the software during training. If that’s not possible, don’t worry! We’ve yet to encounter a training group that wasn’t happy to share their laptop with neighbors.
4. Come Prepared for Connection
While the highlight of Truth Training is getting to see the calculators in action with Todd himself, there’s so much to gain from this event. That includes the wisdom of your peers. We highly recommend coming to the event with an idea of how you can give forward to the community. If we all do it, we all stand to come away with some awesome knowledge and connections, too.
We want to hear your insights and your questions, so don’t hesitate to ask what you wish to know in class. And of course, there will be several opportunities to connect over meals with your peers. This is valuable time to share success stories, problem solve challenges, and go home with action items. (Bring your business cards along!)
5. Practice, Practice, Practice
Truth Training is A LOT. In just 3 days, we dive DEEP into the calculators. It can be intense, and sometimes overwhelming.
First, BREATHE.
Second, come prepared.
The more you can practice your calculators ahead of time, the more prepared you’ll be when it’s time to review that calculator. Todd teaches through stories, which sometimes means he moves fast. Having a little bit of fore-knowledge can help you keep up.
Yet on that note…don’t hesitate to stop him and ask questions! Todd is HAPPY to be interrupted if it means that you’re gaining clarity and understanding. Questions are always welcome.
6. Be Ready to Learn
Obviously, the primary goal of Truth Training is to learn! We have several recommendations for how to get the most out of your learning experience.
- Bring pencils, pens, and paper. We think this is one of the best ways to take notes, though you’re welcome to use your computer as well.
- Restart and update your computer before Day 1. On the first day, we give everyone an updated version of Truth Concepts, and software that enables screen-sharing. It can be a slow process, so help us speed it up by coming in with a fully updated computer!
- Choose the top THREE calculators you want to focus on. There are too many calculators to master them all in just 3 days. We don’t expect that of anyone. By choosing three that you’re really interested, you allow yourself a little grace if some things don’t click, and you’ve determined when you’re going to focus deeply. You’ll walk away more satisfied.
