Whether you’ve been to a dozen Truth Trainings, or you’re gearing up for your first, it’s tricky to know just what you’ll need to be prepared. As with any business trip, you can forget some of the small things. Sometimes, there may be “hacks” you had never even considered.
Today, we’re giving you an insider’s look at how to best prepare for a Truth Training. With these tips and tricks, you’ll leave nothing up to chance.
Tips to Prepare for Truth Training in Salt Lake City
1. Choose Your Hotel
If you’ve been to our Houston event, you know that training is held in a hotel—therefore, making accommodations an easy decision. In Salt Lake City, we hold the training inside Patrick Donahoe’s Paradigm Life building, in the heart of downtown. This gives you a chance to book any hotel you’d like, however we recommend somewhere close.
Downtown Salt Lake City is easily walkable. Our team enjoys the brisk morning walks, which can be only a few minutes depending on how close you are. The Peery Hotel and TownePlace Suites are both options within a few minutes of the Paradigm office, and the rooms are reasonably priced.
2. Know What Your Hotel Offers
Does your hotel offer continental breakfast? Is there a gym? It’s always a good rule of thumb to check out the amenities on-site, so that you know exactly what to expect (and can prepare accordingly). Bringing your own protein bars or snacks is a great way to get your breakfast, especially if you have specific dietary preferences. A refillable water bottle is also a great way to stay hydrated throughout the event. If you’re dedicated to getting a little exercise in, come prepared with a hotel-friendly workout plan if your hotel lacks a gym (or is closed due to COVID).
Note that the Paradigm Life office will also have some beverages and snack available to you.
3. Have an “Uber” Plan
When you arrive at the SLC airport, it’s about a 15 minute drive (or about 7 miles) to the Paradigm Life building and surrounding hotels. It’s good to know how you’ll get there ahead of time. Ridesharing apps such as Uber or Lyft can be a convenient and inexpensive way to make it to your destination.
Be aware that you must have the app on your phone to call a ride. It’s as simple as putting in the address of your destination and choosing a car option. If you use your phone a lot during travel, it’s useful to have a charger on hand, so you have plenty of battery power to call your Uber and track your ride.
Uber or Lyft not for you? You can always call a Yellow Cab at: 801-521-2100
4. Pack the Right Clothes
In January, Salt Lake City sits around 32-43 degrees. You’ll want to bring a good coat (and some comfortable shoes), as we’ll be taking our lunch breaks around the downtown area. There are several great restaurants within walking distance, so you’ll want to be warm!
In addition, conferences like this always beg the question: what’s the dress code? We just want you to be comfortable, as you’ll be sitting and listening for much of the time. Many attendees dress business casual, however, some even dress a bit more casual. We recommend at least bringing layers so you can regulate your temperature.
5. Come Prepared to Connect
One of the best parts about Truth Training, aside from Todd’s wisdom, is the opportunity to connect with like-minded advisors. In preparation, we highly recommend coming with questions, ideas, and a great attitude. There will be plenty of opportunities to share meals with your peers, which means you’ll be able to go deep into the successes and challenges of your business. And if you have some business cards printed, don’t forget those!
6. Prepare to Learn
Obviously, the primary goal of Truth Training is to learn! We have several recommendations for how to get the most out of your learning experience.
- Bring pencils, pens, and paper (we think this is one of the best ways to take notes, though you’re welcome to use your computer as well).
- Restart and update your computer before Day 1. On the first day, we give everyone an updated version of Truth Concepts, and software that enables screen-sharing. It can be a slow process, so help us speed it up by coming in with a fully updated computer!
- Review your Truth Concepts Academy. This doesn’t have to be an intensive process; we recommend choosing a few calculators you really want to master at Truth Training and review the Academy videos you have. Note questions you have, so you can make the most of this time with Todd.
7. Follow the Arrows
When you enter the Paradigm Life building, you may find it a bit confusing. First, you’ll head for the elevator (not the stairs). We’ll be hanging signs to help guide you in the right direction, so you can navigate. We can’t wait to see your faces.
How Do You Prepare?
